Experiencing a slow system; how to Troubleshoot

Modified on Tue, 27 May at 9:26 AM

If you're experiencing slowness or a screen that doesn't load, you can help us identify the issue by sending a HAR file — a small recording of what's happening behind the scenes in your browser.

How to record a HAR file

Mac

  1. Open Chrome and go to the page where you are experiencing the slow system.

  2. Right-click anywhere on the page and select "Inspect" from the dropdown menu.

  3. In the developer tools window, click on the "Network" tab.

  4. Check the box next to "Preserve log" to ensure that the log is not cleared when you refresh the page.

  5. Refresh the page to start capturing the network traffic.

  6. Once the page has finished loading, right-click anywhere on the grid of network requests and select "Save as HAR with Content."

Windows

  1. Open Chrome and go to the page where you are experiencing the slow system.

  2. Press F12 to open the developer tools.

  3. Click on the "Network" tab.

  4. Check the box next to "Preserve log."

  5. Refresh the page to start capturing the network traffic.

  6. Once the page has finished loading, right-click anywhere on the grid of network requests and select "Save as HAR with Content."

How to send the HAR file

Typically, a HAR file is too large to be sent via email. We suggest saving the file on Google Drive, where you can easily manage your files and share them securely. Once you have uploaded the HAR file, make sure to adjust the sharing settings to public so that anyone with the link can access it without any restrictions. After adjusting the settings, you can then share the generated link with us to facilitate our review process.

Alternatively, if you prefer not to use Google Drive, you can utilise a service like WeTransfer, which is designed for sending large files quickly and efficiently.

Pulling a HAR file is a valuable step in troubleshooting a slow system on Chrome and can provide valuable insights into the network activity that may be causing the issue.
