Airbnb Messaging

Modified on Thu, 17 Apr at 10:46 AM

Due to Airbnb's privacy policy they no longer support sending guest email addresses via the API. Instead they want all guest communication to be handled on the Airbnb platform and, where there is a channel manager connected, through the messaging API.

RoomRaccoon has a basic integration with Airbnb's messaging API to ensure that we still send the automated documents to guests who have booked via Airbnb.

However, due to limitations of the Airbnb Messaging API, these documents will be sent out in plain text. That means that the photos and styling in our usual documents are stripped. For this reason, if you use custom documents, RoomRaccoon can not send the documents to Airbnb. This is because we are unable to determine the styling of the custom document.

If you enter your actual email address then our usual document style will send out to the guest's email address and not via the Messages API.

Airbnb does not send any contact details to RoomRaccoon due to their privacy policy. All third party comms must be managed through Airbnb messaging directly.  The only way to get the guests email address is if they provide it to you directly, or if the guest completes the online check-in.

How to activate Airbnb messaging?

The messages API is instantly activated when the Airbnb connection is authorised.
